Ingunn Undrum & Sarah Sjøgreen

Norway

BACK TO REGION

Ingunn Undrum and Sarah Sjøgren handcraft ropes from natural fibres at their workshop in Hardanger, Norway. They are the only artisans in the country to use artisanal rope making techniques that date from the Middle Ages. From start to finish, the entire process is carried out by hand; the strings are composed of kemp, kraft, lime, manila, coconut and horsehair. Ingunn has been making ropes for over 20 years, her workshop attached to the Hardanger Maritime Museum
